You Can Witness Eliza Transform Before Your Eyes During a Performance of My Fair Lady
The most beloved musical of all time, Lerner & Loewe’s My Fair Lady is back on Broadway in a lavish production at NMSU Center for the Arts on Thursday, April 25. Boasting such classic songs as “I Could Have Danced All Night” and “The Rain in Spain”, My Fair Lady follows the story of Eliza Doolittle, a young Cockney flower seller, and Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor who is determined to transform her into his idea of a proper lady.
During the musical, Eliza Doolittle meets Colonel Pickering and Henry Higgins in Covent Garden where she’s selling flowers. When Higgins remarks that he could help Eliza speak properly and raise her status in the community, Pickering challenges him to do so and Eliza takes him up on the offer. Though difficult and frustrating for both Eliza and Higgins at first, the lessons soon begin to work wonders, and produce results that neither predict. But who is really being transformed?
Directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher, My Fair Lady is that rare musical by which all others are measured. Bartlett is an American theatre director and has received both the 2008 Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award for his direction of the Broadway revival of South Pacific. The stellar cast will be led by Laura Benanti, Harry Hadden-Paton, Danny Burstein.
