A Mexican Music Virtuoso Has Taken the Flute and Elevated It to the Next Level
It is not every day that you get to witness a Mexican virtuoso right before your eyes. For that reason, music lovers will definitely want to check out flute musician Horacio Franco live in concert on Friday, December 7th at Rio Grande Theatre.
Franco has transformed the vision of the recorder – usually considered a school or amateur instrument – into a professional one. He has more than 25 recordings in Mexico, Europe, and Israel. Owner of a vast repertoire that ranges from Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque to contemporary works (most of them written specially for him), Franco has broken the stereotype of the traditional classical musician and has been acclaimed by international critics at world-wide levels.
As a very active performer, Franco very often plays with several ensembles and he is a frequent soloist with virtually every Mexican orchestra. He also appears with distinguished ensembles around the globe. Of special note is Franco's record of appearances over seven consecutive seasons with the famous orchestra Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. He has edited more than 22 CDs, in which he performs either as soloist, with ensemble or as conductor.
All are welcome to witness Horacio Franco live. Admission is free, but pre-registration is recommended. This event is sponsored by The Consulate General of Mexico, The Centro Cultural Mexicano Paso del Norte, The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and The Rio Grande Theatre.
